I have made several scarves in variations of this basic pattern, and recently wrote the instructions up for use in a class I taught at a guild Technique Night. The scarf is very cushy and warm, and completely reversible...if made in two colors, it will have Color A more predominant on one side, and Color B more predominant on the other. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit purl slip a st purlwise yarn over cast on bind off in rib pattern purl into back of stitch yarn forward yarn back knit 2 together purl 2 together GAUGE Note: Gauge is not terribly important in this pattern; but as a guide, 11 1/2 sts and 14 rows = 4 inches in Brioche Rib pattern (Count 14 V's in a column...this is actually 28 rows, as those stitches have been slipped on alternate rows; ignore that...just count how many stitches you see in the column) SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Approximately 4 1/2 inches wide by 50 inches long; may vary according to yarn and needle size SUGGESTED YARN 220 yards of Chunky weight

Recommended with this pattern

  • Chunky yarn, around 110 yds per 100g ball, 2 balls of one color or 1 each of 2 colors
  • Circular needles, 1-2 sizes smaller than recommended on ball band

I was taught the basics of knitting, crochet, embroidery, and sewing by my grandmother when I was young. I have found that I enjoy doing a variety of fiber related crafts, and have over the years learned to spin yarn, weave, tat, braid, felt and bead. But the greatest satisfaction for me comes from using my God-given creativity to create my own designs and techniques.
