Boleyn Shawl is the first piece in the Six Wives of Henry the VII series. It is a top neck down triangular shawl. The stitch pattern of the body is very easy to memorize, making it a good first lace shawl project. A rapid increase in stitches near the border gives a slight chevron shape to the wingspan, making it wide enough to wear in a number of ways. It can be knit in dk weight as written, or in fingering weight/sock weight yarn by changing needle size to size 8 and 7 needles. Boleyn is an especially good pattern for use with mohair or yarn with a halo, as there is a lot of open space for the halo to fill in. The pattern is both charted and written, and includes many photographs. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit purl yarn over s2kp ssk k2tog GAUGE Gauge is not crucial: 1 pattern repeat is about 2" in length after blocking. The shawl is worked at much larger gauge than the yarn label calls for, making a very stretchy, mesh fabric. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS approximately 28" x 60" after blocking

Recommended with this pattern

  • 400 yards dk weight OR
  • approx 440 yards fingering weight
  • US 9 and US 8 32- 40" circular needles for DK yarn OR

My name is Deborah, and I design under the name ObliviousKnits. I've been making things my whole life, mostly self-taught. I taught myself to knit about 11 years ago. I got obsessed! I also crochet, bead, paint, draw, play with fiber and drop spindle, all while watching disgusting amounts of tv. My husband and I play guitar and write songs, but mostly I like playing with YARN.
