Bluff Point Shawl is crescent shaped, beginning at top center back and worked down and outward. A center panel echoes the design elements. The pattern contains directions for both fingering and laceweight versions. The shawl is appropriate for solid or tonal yarns, and for handpainted yarns with similar color values. The shawl was designed to suggest the abundant switchgrass growing at water's edge at Bluff Point State Park in Connecticut. This pattern is charted. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Ability to work from charts. Stitches used: knit, purl, YO, SSK, knit2together, s1k2togpsso. GAUGE Fingering weight: 24 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches, unblocked in stocking st. Laceweight: 28 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches, unblocked in stocking st. Gauge not critical; however significant variation will impact yardage. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Fingering weight: 63 inch wingspan, measured along top curve; 20 inch length center back. Laceweight: 54 inch wingspan, measured along top curve; 19 inch length center back.

Supplies Needed

  • 380 yards fingering weight yarn or 375 yards lace weight yarn. Size 6 circular needle (29" or longer) ; one size 9 needle for bind-off for fingering weight/ Size 5 circular needle (29" or longer) ; one size 8 needle for bind-off for laceweight.
  • 4 stitch markers; blunt yarn needle for finishing.
