Sometimes less really is more. That's definitely the case with this pattern. It's a simple, but lovely, way to showcase half a skein of "too good for socks" hand-dyed yarn. It's also a perfectly portable project, ideal for knitting on the go. This is a great pattern for beginners although please note that the first row might be a little tight. Just keep going, getting started is the most difficult bit about knitting in the round. The pattern is designed to use half a skein of sock yarn (about 200m) but it works well if knitted longer to use up more yarn - it looks a little more slouchy that way. If you only have a small amount of yarn you may need to start the decreases earlier - perhaps put a lifeline in before you start them if you think you might run out of yarn. Pattern update (15 December 2013) - now includes notes on knitting the pattern in aran and bulky weight yarn. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit knit in round purl knit 2 together cast on cast off GAUGE 6.5 stitches per inch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS The finished hat measures approximately 26 cm/10 inches long and 20cm/8 inches wide, although you could knit it far longer for more "slouch". If you'd like to make the hat bigger or smaller, ensure you cast on a number of stitches divisible by 8 so the decreases work. SUGGESTED YARN 219 yards of Fingering weight
