Pattern Details

ASHTON HAS BEEN UPDATED FEB 2014. This version is very similar to the previous version. There is more detail about estimating yardage when adjusting the size. Also, the suggested way to recalculate stitch counts has been revised from the previous version. Have you admired beautiful lace shawls but were too intimidated by lace charts to try to knit one? Then this is the perfect pattern for you. Ashton is a lovely shawlette with leaf motifs that was inspired by the beauty of spring here in Virginia, as the tiny leaf buds seem to merge into full-sized leaves in the blink of an eye. Ashton is offered as a charted pattern that was designed specifically for knitters who wish to venture into using charts or knitting lace for the first time. The large, easy-to-view charts are formatted to be user-friendly and simple to comprehend, with detailed instructions on how to use them. In order to provide even more help for knitters new to charts and lace, the pattern includes a 6-page Tutorial with even more in-depth step-by-step instructions on how to read the charts as well as detailed notes on how to increase the size of the shawl and how to block it. Hundreds of people have learned to knit lace from charts with this pattern, why not you too??!!!! If you already read charts and are just looking for a versatile and fun shawlette to knit, the pattern is complete and stands on its own without the tutorial pages. This top-down, triangular shawlette knits up quickly in fingering weight yarn, but may be knitted in lace weight, sport weight or whatever weight you like. Ashton is the perfect shawlette to showcase your favorite variegated hand-dyed or tonal yarns and can be knitted using only one skein of most sock yarns. Natural fibers are recommended for this pattern. The ability to increase the shawl size simply by adding repeats of the leaf bud motif section makes Ashton easily customizable for whatever yarn or needle size you choose. Hi! I am a former professional guitarist who is very grateful to be a full time knitting pattern designer. I made all my clothes and jewelry as a hippie girl many years ago, and had a little cottage industry of selling my handcrafts to friends in high school. I later turned to music and put down all the needles and hooks and soldering guns and whatnot for over 30 years. I picked up knitting again a few years ago, but really kicked into gear in earnest June 2008 when I used it as a quit smoking aid. And then I discovered lace and shawls.... and the rest is history, as they say.
