Textured Stacking Rings - Copper

Project Description

Who is this project for? Unisex What are you most proud of? My first tries aren't always items I love enough to wear in public, but these I will wear happily! :) What advice would you give someone starting this project? This is a GREAT first time project. SUPER simple but the result is gorgeous. My main advice would just be to always make sure you have a clear head, a clean work area, and aren't distracted. Using a micro torch IS much easier then I thought it would be, but it still can be a very dangerous tool if you're not thinking clearly or are surrounded by clutter. My husband actually requested that I not use the torch when he wasn't home (hahaha), to which I readily agreed. Better safe then sorry! :)

What you will need

  • I used 12ga copper wire instead of 14 because I was going for a less dainty look. They turned out exactly how I wanted them to! ^_^Other materials used were basic soldering supplies
  • homemade vinegar/salt pickle solution
  • copper paste solder
  • ring mandrel
  • and a chasing hammer.

KJewelry 120859 asked:
love how they turned out!! I just took a class with stacking rings also. Used 12 g wire also, and, for me, the hardest part was getting the two ends of the wire to meet exactly before soldering. My poor fingers were NOT happy since we made 3 rings. We used wire cutters, but maybe if we had sawed them the ends would have worked better? Did you find that to be the difficult part too?
SoMintyFresh answered:
Sorry for the late response! Accidentally had my email notifications set to off! I also had quite a time trying to get the ends of my first ring to meet up perfectly. I couldn't find my good pair of flush cutters and was too lazy to look, but after struggling through one ring I decided to take time to search for them. It made all the difference! I only have to pass over the ends a couple times now before they're totally flush compared to having to file away for 5-10 minutes. I am curious as to whether a saw would make things easier too! I don't have a very good desk setup for sawing so I've never tried it, but I let me know if you try it and it works out! :)
