Medusa's Tears necklace

Project Description

Who is this project for? Women

What you will need

  • This design was inspired by Medusa
  • her serpent hair is represented in the frame of the centre piece
  • which snakes it's way
  • gently forming a curve. She was the daughter of Okeanos (the ocean) so I have used deep blue Lapis Lazuli stones. The centre stone is a large tear-drop shaped Lapis Lazuli cabochon which is 1 1/4"" tall and 7/8" at it's widest point)
  • which I have set using the Viking knitting technique
  • this is surrounded by a large frame of copper wire
  • which I have hand shaped and hammered. The frame continues to snake it's way and I have attached 2 Lapis Lazuli drops either side of the main stone
  • which I have wrapped with copper wire. I have embellished the top of each stone with copper and Lapis Lazuli beads of varying sizes. The centre piece is 2 3/4" at it's widest point
  • 1 1/2" tall and the whole piece is curved slightly by 1/8". This centre piece hangs from 2 Viking knit chains
  • which are finished with handmade wire cones and a hook clasp. The total length of the necklace is 18" I have oxidised this piece to highlight the detail.
