Infinity Mother's Rings

Project Description

Who is this project for? Women What are you most proud of? Soldering was on my "what I want to learn"-list for quite a long time. But I was afraid of my torch and felt intimidated by all the "equipment" needed - torch, solder, flux, pickle, fire/kiln brick, charcoal block,... phew. Then I discovered solder paste, and a friend sent me a link to this wonderful "Micro Torch Basics" video on Craftsy. And suddenly I discovered how much fun it is, What advice would you give someone starting this project? Begin with the "finite" version of Perri's tutorial.

Lori Boyd asked:
I would love to try to make this ring. Where do I start?
HeikeK answered:
I think it's best to begin with Perri's tutorial. It's not an "infinite version", but it's best to get used to the weaving techique first. Btw, Perri is a wonderful teacher. Whenever you have a question or get stuck, send her an email and she will help you out. When you feel safe with Perri's version, then try try the infinity version. It's more difficult to work the weave around a closed/soldered jump ring than along a strip of wire(s). I learned how to solder with Kate Richbourg's wonderful (free!!!) Micro Torch Basics Workshop here on Craftsy. You will have to experiment with the ratio of jump ring size to final ring size, And don't be disappointed when you need several attempts before you come up with what you had hoped for. The rings need a bit of practice, so begin with inexpensive materials and most of all - have fun!
