Hot pink and dark tatted earrings

Who is this project for? Women What are you most proud of? All the design elements fit together, and it's completed in one pass. What advice would you give someone starting this project? You need to know how to tat rings, chains, joins, and lock joins. If you have not tatted with beads or 2 shuttles before, this is a good small project to practice those techniques.

Q&A with Marilee Rockley

These are just beautiful! I have always wanted to learn to tat. To me it looks like a combination of crochet, macrame' and weaving with shuttles! The only one I don't know how to do is crochet something I plan on learning and have already started teaching myself with a children's kit! (knitting was a no go! LOL!) Is it hard to learn? (tatting that is? ) What would you suggest as far as starting? Are there kits? Someone once taught me to broomstick crochet with a needle made out of a closet rod, and I found it easier to learn from watching than written instructions! I guess some people learn easier that way!
Marilee Rockley answered:
Thanks :) Sounds like you'd enjoy learning to tat! First of all, there's no crocheting technique used in tatting at all, so you don't need to know crochet. All that you need to get started tatting is any tatting shuttle, and some crochet cotton. I recommend a size 10 cotton, or even the larger size 3 cotton to learn how with. My shuttle tatting course here on Craftsy is a convenient way to learn by watching!
