First silver clay project

Project Description

Who is this project for? Women What are you most proud of? That I finally got brave enough to try this! The first pic shows the earrings just brushed, the second with a patina and the final pic shows the assembled earrings. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Try something small so it doesn't seem as scary. When you see how easy this medium is to use then you will have the confidence to try larger projects.

What you will need

  • Art Clay Silver
  • torch
  • butterfly crystals. I used syringe clay to outline the flowers and then a paintbrush to give the flowers a somewhat brush embroidery look.

Q&A with Melodie T

Jenny Vestal asked:
Wow. I love love love that you freehanded the flowers, used the syringe and brush - you discovered in your very first project the true beauty of metal clay....it is totally 'plastic' in it's ability to be formed, and then it's totally silver when it's fired! Beautiful. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with!
Melodie T answered:
Thanks Jenny, I had fun making these. Being they were small I wasn't worried if I messed up. The syringe clay was much stiffer than I anticipated, next time I think I would try making a thick slip. It was a good project to learn not only how to work the clay but also how to handle the syringe.
