Adventures in Metalsmithing

Project Description

Who is this project for? Women What are you most proud of? Years ago I saw a stacking set of rings on Etsy that I wanted to buy, bought the torch and lots of supplies and was too afraid to "jump in" and make the rings. I have designed wire wrapped jewelry for years and thought "this is something I can do". Well, NOT! So it sat there for almost 2 years, and then I saw the Micro Torch class and watched it - and got up the nerve to try it. I LOVE IT! So thrilled I finally took a chance and dove right in. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Patience, and more patience and you should become a stickler for details. The end result is SO rewarding, I still walk around with a smile on my face at what I have accomplished - these rings above are really my 2nd and 3rd ring that I have worked on.

What you will need

  • Copper
  • Sterling Silver
  • Semi Precious Stones.

Q&A with Masselyn

GrammiChelle asked:
Wow, I can't wait to get started. What brand of torch did you buy? Does it really matter or are they all pretty much the same?
Masselyn answered:
I have a torch I bought about 4 years ago, but it happens to be a blazer. I think they look a little different now, but function the same. It works great for me, other than when working with thick wire (like 4g). For that I think I need something that gets a little hotter, so I am looking into a water torch (I do not really want gas in my house). :)
