With just a 25mm coin bead or cabochon, some seed beads in a few colours, some 4mm fire-polished beads or pearls, make a fabulous reversible pendant. Cover the back of the cabochon (or the ugly side of the bead) with a star pattern in shades to match the bead, and continue around the outer rim to form a secure bezel. Embellish using size 15 seed beads and your 4mm accent beads, work a simple bail, and you'll have a one-of-a-kind pendant, pretty on both sides. I know this satisfies the [ex] seamstress in me who enjoyed lovely linings, even if no one could see them, and perfectly finished seams. There's something quite compelling in creating a piece that is just as pretty on the not-for-public side as on the public side. A little like lacy underwear, perhaps! The instructions do certainly scale up or down for bigger or smaller coin beads, as well as higher domed cabochons, but I would recommend making it at least once using the specified 25mm bead, so you get a good feel for the fit, and will better be able to adjust for a different size next time. Most of this should be worked at a moderate tension: not too loose and not too tight, but you may have to adjust is your cabochon or coin bead is slighter bigger or slightly smaller. You will need to tighten your tension for the last few rounds to make the bezel secure, and the embellishment does look better (it doesn't flop) if you can keep your tension on the tight side. This is probably not a suitable project for a rank beginner, but anyone comfortable with peyote stitch, preferably flat round peyote, should be able to have success with this project. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Finished pendant is about 1 1/4" across and the bail can be made to fit your necklace

I can neither imagine nor remember a time when I wasn't making things. I have tried almost every fiber art, and currently knit and spin my own yarn. I sew clothes and furnishings occasionally. I've dabbled in polyclay, lampwork and silver-smithing, but immerse myself in seed beading. I teach at a local bead store, as well at national shows from time to time. Patterns in my shop are by and large based on classes I have taught, so they've been tested on real people!
