This design started some years ago as a couple of strands of fine wire with an assortment of beads arranged sparsely along it. Over the years it has evolved into a spectacular statement pearl or gemstone collar, perfect for a bride, or to wear with an evening or cocktail gown, or just to wear with a "little black dress". The tutorial consists of 14 pages, with 29 steps and numerous photographs to enable you to make this gorgeous collar. It is graded INTERMEDIATE, but can easily be used by a beginner with an interest in craftwork generally. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY It would be advantageous, but not strictly necessary, to know how to make a wrapped wire loop. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS About 45cm long, but easily adjusted to fit the wearer. About 5cm at the widest point.

Supplies Needed

  • 3 - 4 strands of assorted freshwater rice pearls
  • 26 gauge (0.4mm) non-tarnish silver plated wire
  • 20 gauge (0.8mm) silver wire - 2 x 7cm lengths

I live in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, close to the spectacular sailing country of the Kimberley, Western Australia. I like the feeling that Darwin is still the Last Frontier in some ways, except when I'm trying to source materials for my craftwork, when I have to rely heavily on the Internet and Australia Post. I've been involved in some sort of craftwork all my life, once the "soft" crafts like embroidery and crochet but now more likely to involve wire and gemstones, pearls or polymer clay.
