This tutorial teaches you how to make a beautiful butterfly pendant of your own, using the Spike Technique, also teach you the Spike Technique as a Bonus!!! This technique is mainly consisting of continuously aligning small loops in a row, using just a pair of round nose pliers, so it is easy, even for a beginner in wirework. However, I consider this as an Intermediate level tutorial. You could use the butterfly pendant to create a beautiful necklace, as shown in the third picture, or, you could turn it into a lovely brooch by simply attaching a pin on its back. The tutorial does not demonstrate how to create a necklace or a brooch but just the pendant shown in the second picture. My idea was to have a necklace and I used a couple of jump rings for each one of the big wings tips, to connect a readymade chain, as shown in the first and second pictures. Last picture shows another one of my spiky butterflies, done in copper wire, nicely hanging on a faux suede cord. As my intention is to encourage people to use their own creativity to produce their own, beautiful and unique artwork, the directions given hereunder will not contain the exact measures of the spikes or of the wire length that I used to realize My Spiky Butterfly. I, myself, have been working on this design with the entire spool of wire on my hand, stopping every now and then to see whether my sense of proportions is satisfied, and have decided on spot the length of the spike, according to its place on the design. Once you will understand the idea of spike and that you may play with plain spikes and have fun during the process, instead of taking them as plain as they are, you will be able to design various and amazing creations of your own! You may opt to use any other kind of wire such as copper, bronze, gold plated, etc. as long as you stick to the given gauges. You may also choose to embellish the butterfly wings with any kind of beads or gemstones that pleases you. Sky is your limit so let your creativity speak for you! Tutorial is 35 pages long with over 90 color photos with relevant, detailed instructions given right beside them. I would suggest reading it on the computer and then pick out the pages that you want to print to have at hand while following along. I am always available through Craftsy to answer any questions about the tutorial. Please carefully read all tutorial pages before starting to make your own beautiful jewelries!!! The dimensions given in Imperial System are approximate!!! I hope you will enjoy the lesson. Happy Jewelling!!!
