Q&A with Christine Lacy

esme asked:
Having just planted a rose garden I'm curious, is there anything supporting that climber? It never occurred to me to just let one branch and let it grow forever! On the other hand, I live in New England (where planting a rose in November is equivalent to planting it in a dumpster...). Would you mind telling your planting zone and the variety of rose?
Christine Lacy answered:
It is tied to the 'fall pipe' (which takes water from the gutters round the roof to the land drain). Sorry about saying planting in November is the best time to plant. I was referring to UK, forgetting that craftsy is international. November in UK is a period when plants are dormant, but the ground is still workable. So when is the ground still workable for you in autumn/fall?
