Skates - Free Standing Lace

The first FSL I did was Lindee Goodall's angels and I fell in love with the process. These aren't her patterns but because of her, I have a bunch of them. This week I made my yearly review of this class. And being a snowy day, I decided to do the ice skates.

Q&A with Golda Stein

Dhelden asked:
How to download paterns free
Golda Stein answered:
"Free Standing Lace" also known as FSL, does not mean the pattern is free. The Lace is made without fabric. Instead it is embroidered on a water soluble stabilizer such as Vilene or Solvy. After it is embroidered, the stabilizer is washed away with water. What remains is only thread, so that makes it free standing. This method has to be done with special patterns. Each skate has about 15000 stitches. That used a lot of thread!
caborgens10299265 asked:
Where do I find patterns for this skate project? Where do I find additional patterns for this type of project? Thank you.
Golda Stein answered:
LIndee Goodall has a bunch of these types of projects on her website. The skates came from Urban Threads. Embroidery Library is another good source.
