Hi! This traditional Japanese design has some very typical features - the pattern 'appears' as if by magic as you stitch the shapes round by round - one round on all of one shape first, then one round on all of the other shape. Also, the thread is used double, which can be tricky unless you know the right technique to use. This is described in detail in the Flowery Wheels pattern. This interpretation shows off the little red flowers between the pinstriped spoked wheels, but try working the solid colour on the first shape and the darker colour on the second and see what you get! This is an easy design to stitch and would be good as a second or third C10 ball. Enjoy! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY prepare a basic C10 division Temari ball

Recommended with this pattern

  • C10 division ball, plain sewing thread (any colour), embroidery threads of your choice, pins, long needle.

My mother taught me to knit at age 4 and I haven't stopped crafting since! I work at a variety of crafts and also write tutorials to help others to find new skills or brush up on existing ones. In 'real life' I'm a qualified antiques restorer. I am fascinated by Japanese Temari and have written a number of tutorials in English to help non-Japanese stitchers to create some of the amazing designs. Although the tutorials are ranked into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, Temari from the upper two levels can quite easily be worked by stitchers with little experience of the craft, as the tutorials give very detailed, step-by-step instructions. Full support is given by email for all my tutorials. If you have a problem stitching your project, drop me a line and we'll solve it together.
