Q&A with SticksStudio

Patrick Connors asked:
Hello SticksStudio, Thank you for posting a better image of Mary Street. You drawing can now be appreciated all the more. As a reminder to others this drawing was made in less than ideal circumstances; but, nonetheless, the scene compelled the artist to make do. It is a success as an exercise about space. The composition, the placement of the eye-level line and the objects in the space;and the tonal expression all combine to make this a successful drawing and one in which the viewer re-experiences the artist's delight. One note is that the railing is somewhat isolated as it is the darkest object in the drawing and it is a solid diagonal in an otherwise "organic whole." As such the eye keeps returning to that with the possibility the rest of the drawing is somewhat neglected. In the future be careful of where and what are your darkest darks- unless this is a "poem about a railing." All-in-all, a delightful moment captured with a wonderful tonal expression.
SticksStudio answered:
Patrick, thank you! I totally agree about the railing. Actually it was white, but I think it is distracting. I mentioned I want to do a painting of it and I will definitely eliminate it and try to highlight the rugged stone stairs as an entry into the painting?
