Hi! Thanks for the message. I'm Liz, but the person who owns the afghan (a stranger, referred to me by a friend) is Sonia. I was very nervous to tackle this, as the person had told me of its sentimental value to her. I did let her know I'd do my best! I began by assessing the project to see how the original maker constructed it. I then unraveled leaving "clean holes" around the damaged areas. I tucked in and secured all the loose yarn as I went to avoid further damage. Then I constructed the missing pieces and sewed them back in using the same joining technique as the original maker. It was part sleuth, part creativity and part skill! It was all worth it when the recipient burst into happy tears when she saw it restored. I LOVE doing restoration projects, Thanks so much for your personal message!
