What was your source for this crocheting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Rectangular Granny Square Afghan Link to website or photo iamtotallyobsessedwithyarn.blogspot.com/2006/01/granny-square-pattern-with-pictures.html What advice would you give someone starting this project? When making such a large and time consuming blanket for a family member, do everything you can to prevent it from getting lost in the mail (which happened to me..grumble..grumble..USPS). To prevent your creation from getting lost in the mail, do NOT pack in a box that used to contain medical devices (even if the letters are blacked out). Get as much insurance as you can. And pay for Delivery Confirmation, and anything else to insure that it get's the recipient.

What you will need

  • At least 20 skeins of Caron Super Soft

Q&A with iheartmytho

Grandepuce asked:
Oh no... did USPS ever locate the lost package or was your wonderful blanket lost forever in the black hole of lost mail? Tell me it wasn't so!
iheartmytho answered:
Sadly, I never saw the blanket ever again. But USPS was able to send me a piece of the box with my family member's address on it. It boggles my mind that they found the box but not the contents. I just hope that blanket found a good home and didn't get disposed of.

making my first rectangular granny and I'm an experienced crochet of 40 yrs. Question? I'm left handed and so far converting a pattern from right to left has never been a problem until now. A square granny for us lefties goes clockwise. Right handed people crochet a square granny counter clockwise. Here's how I THINK I should crochet rectangular: chain. for the middle beg. Then what? Thanks, Judy I bought all the same colors by "accident" & I love it!
iheartmytho answered:
Well, I'm a right-y so I don't know how much I can help. There are great pictures in the pattern link (http://iamtotallyobsessedwithyarn.blogspot.com/2006/01/granny-square-pattern-with-pictures.html). But I'd like to think that after your base chain, you could go on the opposite side of the V's into the butts of the stitches if that would work for you.

This is incredible! I'm almost finished with a scarf for my daughter. Then I begin your blanket. Mine will be a large afghan to cuddle up in when crochet & watching TV. Curious . . how long did it take to crochet?
iheartmytho answered:
About a year, off and on.
