Q&A with sewnsew

TattingMargaret asked:
Lovely snowflake
sewnsew answered:
Thank you!
Oddsoxx asked:
Oh my gosh...is that beautiful! That's definitely NOT your standard beginner project.
sewnsew answered:
Thank you so much! I started learning to tat in October, 2013 with Marilee's Craftsy class. In this class, I picked up the fundamental basics of shuttle tatting, adding beads & reading a pattern. It totally amazes me how incorporating this basic knowledge allows me to expand and be creative!
Marilee Rockley asked:
Absolutely exquisite! I've not seen the pattern with the butterflies inside the snowflake before - it's really cool. Do you know who designed it?
sewnsew answered:
Thank you for your gracious compliment, Marilee! The designer is Emma Crew, 2001. The pearls were not a part of her design. I was able to embellish it by applying the lessons I learned in your class.
Cindy Mitchell asked:
Absolutely beautiful! I always thought I'd love to learn tatting, but eyesight likely won't allow it now. Great job!
sewnsew answered:
Thank you, Cindy!!
Oddsoxx asked:
This is a pattern that I would love to try. I hope we find out it's in a book I can buy somewhere.
sewnsew answered:
Here's the website for the pattern I used. http://web.archive.org/web/20040222070308/http://www.geocities.com/emmacrew/tatting/snowflakes/flutterflake.html I embellished the pattern a little by adding oval pearl beads in place of the picots in the center of the snowflake and added pearls to the chains above the butterflies.
