Josefina Elephant Rug

What are you most proud of? How well I was able to capture the facial expression just like the photo. Easy to do following the detailed step-by-step instructions and photos. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be afraid to tackle this project! It's just BIG, that's all! Advice: Do not skip any step, do not try to 'second guess' pattern instructions when making the trunk (it is supposed to curve!), stop and be sure stitch count is correct & use stitch markers.

Q&A with judy11317300

Nrhaller9999 asked:
How long did it take you to complete this? Also did you use acrylic yarn, if so did you need to block this project? Or had you used wool yarn? You've done a wonderful job?
judy11317300 answered:
I would estimate it took me about 40 hours to make the rug. The pattern calls for using three strands of yard held together so after a while each section gets heavy and a bit difficult to handle so it is a bit of a slow go. That being said, the pattern is very well written and not all that difficult. And it was so fun! I did use acrylic yard and I did block it (see the photo of the pieces spread all over my house!) If I remember correctly, the instructions encourage you not to skip that step. This rug turned out absolutely stunning. The three delusional aspect of the ears and the expression in the eyes give it so much personality. I would tackle it again in a heartbeat .. for someone I love ... a lot! Of all the things I've crocheted over the years, I think this is one of my all time favorites. Just be prepared for a workout because of the sheer size and bulk. The one I made has held up well under foot traffic and being cleaned.
