Ariel Amigurumi doll

Project Description

What was your source for this crocheting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Mere the Mermaid Link to website or photo etsy.com What are you most proud of? I am not proud and I just can't really get into this question. I am proud though of those who are talented to make patterns. I could not do that at this point. I can only follow good instructions and there are SO many great patterns out there that it isn't necessary to make my own. They cost from $.99 to 8.00. The ones that are $8.00 are not better than the $1.00 ones. It is just those who want to make the most money that charge so much. If I like it, I buy it, no matter what the cost. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I gave special advice on the yarn used for ami toys. I think wool is best. It doesn't separate as badly as synthetics. It holds together but there again, wool is costlier. I happen to have a lot of it when I thought I would felt bags but I found that I don't like all that washing and soggy, smelly yarn so I am making Amigurumi toys instead. No need to shrink them unless I am making felted dolls. I haven't found a pattern for that yet but I am sure it is out there. Not for me though. Have fun with this doll. She is on etsy.com.

What you will need

  • Poly or wool worsted yarn. I used acrylic on the body but I switched to wool and for the rest of her body. Her hair is fingering acrylic of about 150 yards. All hand embroidery is done with the same yarn. Pearls around the neck are hot glue rather then stranded as this is for a child so no parts can come off. Safety eyes with green felt around stitched to them for a sea green-eyed look. Red eyebrows for of a more life-like look. Some Ami toys have no features and that bugs me. Just a little more time and the face looks for real. She sports a button nose too.

Q&A with linpiration

Damsel asked:
Ariel is so sweet!
linpiration answered:
Yes she is but she isn't real is she. I made this for a four year old but it never was paid for so I kept it. Sort of glad
