This is the second in my series of crochet mask patterns. The series includes Akua Bird Mask, Phoenix Mask, Thunderbird Mask, Leaf Mask and Elephant Mask. I wanted a crochet way to participate in Halloween and MardiGras, as I saw other media amply represented. This bird offers a wonderful canvas for embellishment. One could use beads or buttons for the bird's eye. You could bead the body. wings and/ or tail. You could paint, dye or draw on it. Or let your yarn do the work, by choosing and changing colors between wings, feathers, head, body, tail. Long, long ago, far, far away, when the subway cost a quarter and the corner drugstore was also an ice cream parlor where a little girl sipped vanilla egg creams, her mother, who made her wonderful clothes, showed her how to crochet. Her father taught her how to solder and make a tuner.
