"Hello, my name is... John Merrick... and I'm... very pleased... to meet you." Joseph Carey Merrick (often wrongly named as John) was an Englishman in the Victorian era. He suffered from what is now believed to have been Proteus syndrome which led to deformities throughout his body, so he therefore spent much of his life working as a sideshow act. However, after being given permanent residence at the Royal London Hospital, it emerged that he was a highly sensitive and intelligent man. He would end letters with poetry and enjoyed collecting wild flowers. He was immortalised in the 1980 film "The Elephant Man", where he was played by John Hurt. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY single crochet, chain stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS In a sitting position, 5" tall

Hello, I'm Maffers. I've always loved soft toys and this continued beyond childhood. I'd find myself in antiques fairs snooping around for unusual toys to take home, with Friedrich Nietzsche (an angry lamb) and Quentin Breadmunch (an erudite duck) being my most prized finds. I crochet, by and large, to bring imagined toys into existence. I share some of my creations with close friends but I tend to form a steadfast bond with my toys as soon as they're finished and as such I generally can't bring myself to part with them.
