PATTERN DETAILS

Mapleton is a simple, delicate accessory highlighted by a pretty scalloped edging. It is worked sideways adding the edging as you go. This keeps things beautifully basic and allows you to manage your yarn so that you don't run out and can use every last metre. Pattern includes instructions (written and charted) for both a shawl and scarf version and approximate yardage for multiple yarn weights. Perfect for the confident beginner, simply choose your favourite yarn, grab a hook and get started! Yarn: Whatever yarn you like! This design can be worked up using just about any fibre and yarn weight. Cotton, silk, alpaca and bamboo blends would be the most ideal as they are more likely to drape gently. But if you are after a squishy warm winter shawl or scarf, 100% wool will also work beautifully. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Skill Level: EASY This is a project created using basic stitches and minimal shaping and finishing. It would be a great project for the adventurous beginner. Pattern stitches (US Terminology): ch, sl st, sc, dc, dc2tog GAUGE For this design, gauge is not critical. So relax. Simply aim for a soft fluid fabric suited to the yarn you have chosen. You don't want your shawl to be stiff and rigid, or loose and shapeless. Work a couple of pattern repeats and be the judge. If it's too stiff, choose a larger hook. If the fabric is too loose, go down a hook size. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Scarf version: 64" (162cm) X 6" (15cm) Small Shawl: 53" (135cm) wide X 14" (36cm) deep Large Shawl: 68" (175cm) wide X 23" (59cm) deep PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Noro Taiyo Sock

Recommended with this pattern

  • Tapestry Needle
  • Tape measure
  • Hook:This will depend on the yarn weight selected. As you want a fluid fabric to your garment, I would suggest a hook one size bigger than the size recommended for the yarn weight being used.
