PATTERN DETAILS

I first designed these hats in the summer of 2010 for my aunt, her daughters, and her grand-daughters. A loose sun hat that drapes casually over the head (instead of hovering). The brim holds up under the construction techniques of the stitches requiring no extra wire or stiffening agents. The hat is made as a single piece with single crochet, front- and back-post single crochet, and crab stitches done in a tight gauge. The simple in-the-round design makes the piece very easily adjusted to fit any size. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Single crochet GAUGE 16 sts = 4" in sc SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 18" to 23" SUGGESTED YARN 200 yards of Worsted weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Bernat Cottontots

Recommended with this pattern

Taking the steps to become a professional crochet designer was more an act of unemployed desperation than inspiration. None the less, taking the craft to this higher level has brought a tremendous sense of fulfillment to my intellectual love of geometry and spiritual desire for artistic creation along with finding an unexpected use of my education in writing and editing.
