When beginning to swatch for my latest shawl design, I wanted something simple that would showcase a beautiful skein of yarn - something that was easy, looked beautiful, but was still interesting to make - and of course, I wanted my traditional "any weight, any gauge" style. I think this design fits the bill nicely. I used Knit Picks Swish Tonal, a worsted weight yarn, for a quick crochet project, but my testers used yarn from lace to bulky. I named this shawl the "Julia Heliconian Shawl" because the shape of the shawl reminds me of a butterfly, and the colors remind me of a Julia Heliconian butterfly. There are two versions of this shawl: a straight edged, more "traditional" shaped shawl, or a "batwing" shape, which wraps around your shoulders easily and will stay in place. And thanks to Tracie Barrett ( for her tech editing skills. Many thanks to my testers, StarStrong, marjos, Blacky67, CollieGrl64, Ariaya, purlingkitten, debspugs, dtf1983, Leilacnm, Tinochka7, honeystalks, grayhare, croknitmama, & BeverlyGoulet! As always you guys are the BEST TESTERS EVER! Feel free to make as many of these as you like for local craft fairs/auctions/raffles/bazaars, but please do not sell finished items online. Anastacia Knits Designs
My name is Anastacia, and I am the scrap yarn/one skein queen. I buy my yarn mainly at yard sales/thrift stores, so I got used to making do with what I could find. So most of my patterns are designed to use up the odd skeins or leftovers in your life, and are geared towards beginner crocheters or those who just want a fast, easy, but still pretty item. I'm a 30 something adult living in MA. I’m married, have a wonderful cat named Wedgie, & I work full time. I also teach knitting & crocheting at my local Michael's & squeeze in designing as many hours as I can a week. I do love to hear from everyone, but please remember that I am busy, just like you, & will reply as soon as I can. All of my patterns use USA terms & abbreviations. I try to layout my patterns as simply as possible to save money for people printing at home. My patterns are as short as possible, usually with only one photo on the first page, which you can easily skip printing to save ink. .
