Some months ago I was asked by Handmade Magazine (Australia) to design something for their retro/vintage issue (Vol 31 No 7). So, of course, the perennial favourite, the granny square, came to mind. Which then tumbled out all those orange, brown, purple memories of my '70's childhood! And so the Groovy Granny Bag was hatched! A big plus for this bag is the gusset - this makes the bag roomy enough to carry all your crafty goodies, your everyday things or all that special shopping!. The handles of the bag are long enough to carry the bag over your shoulder, freeing up your hands for other activities. I have combined granny squares with some little circlular-ish flower motifs just to mix it up a bit. The bag is fully lined as well - in fact, it is double lined so you see the right side of the orange lining fabric from the outside and the right side of the lining fabric on the inside. The crochet pattern is written using UK/Australian terminology but if you are more familiar with the US terminology you just have to convo me and I can supply these for you The pattern supplies: Instructions for both the crochet and fabric techniques used to make the bag Photos of all relevant steps All fabric and yarn requirements Sewing and basic patchwork hints Cutting instructions Pressing tips Layout and Assembly instructions BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY do all the basic crochet stitches, to use a sewing machine would be good but sewing in the lining can be done by hand as well SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS bag dimensions are 14 1/2" long x 10 1/2" high x 3 1/2" wide 36.25cm long x 26.25cm high x 8.7.5cm wide)

Hi. I am Karen Pior and Sew Well Maide is where I wear my business hat. I also have other hats - Mother to five, Wife to one (!!!), Sister, Daughter, Friend. My hats are interchangable or, as frequently happens, worn precariously stacked on top of each other!! I am passionate about all things fabric and textile. I love drafting my own patterns and then sewing beautiful, unique and individual garments from them. This has become my latest obsession passion! I love patchwork quilts both modern and antique. I love the excitement of designing quilts and accessories and stacks of fabric bolts give me a quiet little thrill! I teach pattern drafting, sewing, quilting and crochet to all who are interested in dipping their creative fingers into all these pies! It is wonderful to see the excitement of accomplishment on the faces of my students. Knitting is my nirvana. The click clack of the needles is both soothing and peaceful. It quietens a busy mind and lulls me into another world full of possibilities or nothing in particular!!! Crocheting is so quick and produces such wonderful textures that I can't resist it. When I hang out on Ravelry and Flickr I am known as Knitting Maide. When time allows I love reading, veggie gardening and watching tv. And I try to never, ever miss an opportunity to yell and cheer as the football, soccer, cricket and ballet Mum.
