The Free Spirited Shell Shawl is an easy, advanced beginner crocheted shawl that is worked sideways. There are also directions for working the border two slightly different ways. It was designed to showcase self-striping yarn, but solids or variagates work nicely as well. You can use any yarn, in any weight, and work the shawl to any size. Use a larger than normal hook (1-2 sizes larger than the size recommended on your yarn label). Sample was made using Knit Picks Chroma yarn in fingering weight, 1 skein (396 yards), and after blocking shawl measured 23" deep by 42" across after blocking. My testers used yarns from fingering weight to aran weight. Many thanks to my testers, pandastamper, croknitmama, CymraesCrochet, CollieGrl64, mmcrochet , harnish408 and purlingkitten! Feel free to make as many of these as you like for local craft fairs/auctions/raffles/bazaars, but please do not sell finished items online. If making for charity, please let me know the name of the charity & include my contact info with the item ( If you have any questions or comments or just want to join like-minded souls, please join my Ravelry group at Thanks! Anastacia Knits Designs
My name is Anastacia, and I am the scrap yarn/one skein queen. I buy my yarn mainly at yard sales/thrift stores, so I got used to making do with what I could find. So most of my patterns are designed to use up the odd skeins or leftovers in your life, and are geared towards beginner crocheters or those who just want a fast, easy, but still pretty item. I'm a 30 something adult living in MA. I’m married, have a wonderful cat named Wedgie, & I work full time. I also teach knitting & crocheting at my local Michael's & squeeze in designing as many hours as I can a week. I do love to hear from everyone, but please remember that I am busy, just like you, & will reply as soon as I can. All of my patterns use USA terms & abbreviations. I try to layout my patterns as simply as possible to save money for people printing at home. My patterns are as short as possible, usually with only one photo on the first page, which you can easily skip printing to save ink. .
