This cute FRANKIE fedora is inspired by the "pork-pie" hats worn by the cool punk dudes in the early 1960's. After many many prototypes - given to grateful friends! - here is the final design, for your wearing and gifting enjoyment. Tip your FRANKIE to one side. Wear it far back on your noggin to show some attitude. Play with the brim! FRANKIE is not your average beanie! I prefer to use acrylic yarn to crochet this hat. It's usually stiffer and will keep the shape nicely. Experiment with three colors! I've done the top and brim on one color, the crown in another and the hatband in a third. Variegated yarn makes it interesting, with the hatband crocheted in a complimentary, or even a contrasting tone. Don't be shy!

Hi there, fellow Yarnians, and welcome to my shop! When I was small, Mom would give me little scraps of fabric, leftovers from something she'd be sewing. I was trusted with a larger, sharp needle and thread, and even good scissors, can you imagine?! I would park outside on an old quilt, in the shade of a big lilac bush and design and sew for my dolls, content for hours. I think I got addicted to designing and constructing garments way back then. My long-time love as an adult is for crochet projects. They're so portable, quick, easy to fix when mistakes happen. I like yarn. Patterns march through my brain when I'm working with my hooks. Experimenting is exciting - I am not afraid to step off the path and figure out how to build new shapes. If I can help you create from my patterns, please let me know.
