The first time I saw fingerless gloves, I laughed because I couldn't imagine why anyone would wear open-ended gloves. Fast forward a few years, when nearly everyone uses a cell phone, and my opinion changed completely. Fingerless gloves or texting gloves keep your hands warm, yet allow you lots of mobility when you're using a cell phone or inserting a key in a lock. Whether you use acrylic or wool yarn, or a blend of fibers, these gloves are practical, yet still fun and flirty. The directions are easy to follow. Believe it or not, my husband (who has just basic crochet skills), tested the pattern and was able to follow it without a hitch. Preview from the pattern: "Each glove is crocheted with two crochet hooks--one for the glove, and another hook for the flower embellishment. You'll crochet each glove as a flat piece. Work the scalloped "fingerless" part of the glove in a modified shell stitch, then add the wrist in griddle stitch along one long side of the scalloped section. You will form a tube by hand sewing (with yarn) a seam along the side of the glove, leaving an opening for the thumb. Then you'll crochet a small tube that fits into the thumb opening. The crocheted flower is sewn with sewing thread to the glove, or can be omitted (your choice). The gloves are sized to fit an average woman or teen's hand." (c) 2012 Judy Nolan. All rights reserved.
