I love chess. My husband loves chess. My whole family loves chess. In fact, we start teaching them the basic moves when they are barely out of diapers! I wanted to make a chess set to enter into our local fair. I thought it would be a winner for sure. And it was, taking a first place ribbon and a Superintendent's award in one Fair and Best in show and Most creative in another. If you are an amateur crafter and have never entered a local fair I highly recommend doing so. It is a lot of fun. I can no longer enter our local fair as I'm now considered a professional crafter, but I still enjoy helping out and sometimes even getting to judge. This pattern includes instructions to make every piece you need as well as instructions for the board which converts into a handy carrying pouch for your pieces. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Crochet, Amigurami GAUGE not important for this pattern. Use a yarn that makes a nice tight weave for the size hook you are using. The bigger the hook, the bigger the chess set will be.
