Share a little about the ingredients and techniques used to create this dish/item. I couldn't get yams, so I used sweet potatoes, which was close enough in my book. Also, I couldn't find maple syrup, so I used traditional Dutch stroop (the kind they use on traditional Dutch pancakes). The rest of it was as close to the ingredients Evan used in the video as I could find. I made a vegetable shortening and butter crust, blind baking as directed. I baked the actual pie fifteen minutes extra because it seemed a little jiggly when I pulled it out at 45 minutes. That might be the reason for the large crack in the middle. I will definitely try this again very soon. I'll use just a touch less salt and just a little more stroop, although someone just told me where I could find maple syrup, so I will probably just pick that up and use it. The crust was not pretty, but was perfect. What are you most proud of? It was a really good first attempt. I'm encouraged to perfect my pie making skills. And I'll definitely invest in a glass pie dish. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just do it. Follow the instructions. Fall in love with pie making.
