This dish has many steps to prepare and put together, so give yourself enough time to enjoy the process. It is a dish to impress. Despite all the many spices in it, I found the tastes combined softly, easy on a palette new to Indian food. My bottom layer of rice came out a bit mushy, so I'd either soak the rice for a shorter time, par boil it for a shorter time, or let more of the water in the vegetable layer boil away before constructing the layers. I am definitely going to be looking for more biryani recipes now.
