Wombat Cake

Do you sell this cake? No, just for fun Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake My first ever 3D hand carved cake I made for my friend's son's first birthday. Its a little wombat made from chocolate mud cake, sandwiched together with chocolate butter-cream, and then covered in Satin Ice dark chocolate fondant, and then hand painted brush strokes of black luster dust to bring out the fur 'look' - had so much fun making it and now I am looking forward to trying out more different types of sculpted cakes :) What are you most proud of? Omg so proud of how this cake came out! All of it but mostly the fact that the whole thing is completely hand carved and hand made from scratch. What advice would you give someone starting this project? allow yourself 2 - 3 days before delivery/pickup of the cake to carve and sculpt something like this, and don't just hack away big chunks off of the cake, start small and get a vision of the animal/object you are trying to make, also little sketches of your design next to you while cutting helps alot :)

Q&A with louise09121980@hotmail.com

Noreenie asked:
Hi Louise can you tell me the cake sizes that you used for this cake . I hope to make one similar as a standing cake.
louise09121980@hotmail.com answered:
Hey Noreenie it's probably a bit late now but I used a 7.5 inch round cake tin for the body and a 6 inch cake tin for the head. The legs were made from left over cut offs mashed with buttercream to form a 'clay' :)
