Out of all the options I had given him, this was my favourite, but the most challenging! Having watched Lauren's Defying Gravity class, her method of disguising the copper pipe was going to be the best way forward to anchor the arm and spout of the watering can. The challenge came when deciding where I wanted to position the arm of the watering can and using Lauren's method gluing the pipe to the board, however rather than the pipe being vertical, I had my pipe anchored at about a 45 degree angle and I then had to cover the pipe with florist paste or the USA equivalent gum paste, which was a challenge because I wanted to make the spout as smooth as possible to replicate a watering can! The next challenge was stacking and covering a 9" deep, 8" round cake and then bringing it to the arm of the watering can so that it looked cohesive and not as though it was been added on - I hope I achieved the desired effect!? I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake and needless to say my neighbour was more than happy with the end result and so too was his grandfather!
