Transformer Truck Cake

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake German Chocolate Cake Boxed Cake Mix/ Homemade Buttercream/ Wilton Rolled Fondant/ Wilton Gumpaste/ Dowel Rods (smoke stacks)/ Rice Crispy Treats (tires)/ Lollipop Sticks (step sides)/ styrofoam block covered in food grade paper (to keep the truck elevated above the sheet cake) What are you most proud of? I am proud of the whole thing. It was difficult to sculpt, being a soft cake. The smoke stacks are dowel rods covered in gum paste. I made a transformers logo out of gumpaste then let it harden. I placed it under the fondant on the back of the truck so it would look like a raised logo in the trunk cover. The wheels are rice crispy treat covered in fondant. The rocks are all different colors of fondant blended together and shaped. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Since I made this cake I have learned that it is easier to freeze your cake before sculpting it. The truck is sitting on a piece of cake board and is raised up from the bottom cake by pieces of styrofoam covered in food-grade foil. I would just advise to have fun and pay attention to the little details. I didn't realize until much later that I forgot to put on windshield wipers! :)
