Shih Tzu Sculpted Dog Cake

Project Description

Do you sell this cake? Yes Name of website or online shop Cakes ROCK!!! Link to website or online shop www.facebook.com/christycakesrock Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake This cake was actually for my friend's two Shih Tzu's birthday party! Their names are Minion & Mayhem. They got their own 'pup-cakes' & this was the cake for humans! I used Elisa's vanilla cake recipe---which has become my go-to recipe anyway. Best vanilla cake I've ever had! I make my own fondant & used Lauren Kitchens' buttercream recipe which is my favorite. I ordered Elisa's short-hair impression mat which was money WELL spent! Both my airbrush & luster dusts were used to create the color on the dog. My favorite cake sculpting tool is my grapefruit knife! I love the curved shape to create natural-looking roundness on the cake, & having both sides serrated makes it super-easy to carved the cake. What are you most proud of? How much she looked like Minion & Mayhem. They said she could be their sister! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Go for it! It's fun & not hard at all. I did have a little trouble with the head wanting to tip forward. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the head when carving in the details. I got a bit carried away!

chears asked:
You are an artist!!!!
CatCakeChristy answered:
Thank you so much!
Mom2Craig asked:
I'm wanting to make a My Little Pony and was trying to figure out if this would help me with carving and how to place the head properly. In your opinion do you think this tutorial would help?
CatCakeChristy answered:
Thank you! I think Kaysie Lackey's Unicorn class would translate better for My Little Pony, as the horse head & structure is much closer. This class is great, but there isn't any structure to speak of.
