Settlers of Catan cake

Project Description

Do you sell this cake? No, just for fun Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake I wanted to share the wood grain cake board I made as a result of this class. The cake that's sitting on it is my edible representation of the Settlers of Catan board game. I baked a hexagon shaped cake and roughly iced it with a blue cinnamon buttercream to represent the water/waves around the island. The “Longest Road” plaque, stack of cards, and each of the hexagon tiles are gum paste and were hand painted with luster dusts and vodka. The smaller round number tiles are also gum paste, but I wrote on them with a food marker. The dice, settlements, cities, and roads are white modeling chocolate. The final detail is the beautiful wood grain cake board which I couldn't made without this class. My husband still talks about how cool it turned out :) What are you most proud of? I love the overall effect of this cake but I also really love the wood grain. What advice would you give someone starting this project? All of the components of this cake can be made ahead of time, making it great for hobbyists like me who don't have much time left after work! It was also a good low-risk intro to hand painting. If you don't like how a tile turns out, try again on a new one!
