The flowers and the pipingS What advice would you give someone starting this project? Before beginning this cake I studied two Craftsy Classes. I thought I would have nothing to learn from the free class, Modern Buttercream. I was very surprised. Although I've been in the cake business a number of years Joshua John Russell taught me some tips that greatly improved my icing techniques. Also, knowing that I haven't perfected my piping technique I purchased the Modern Piping class. It was very helpful in making the artistic leaves the client required. Something I had to struggle to get past was the request the couple made to have the flowers be silver. I started our with gray fondant and used silver pearl dust. I was surprised by how much I loved the effect. One thing I would do differently. The roses were too deep... placing them directly against the cake would have been better if I had not made the base so large.
