Pot o Gold Cake For My Sons 8th Birthday Party

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Fondant (cover pot), Modeling Chocolate (clouds, rainbow, leprechaun), melted chocolate to secure the rainbow rays on the back, foil covered coins. What are you most proud of? All of it! But I love the clouds, even though they were the easiest part. I had grand visions of another leprechaun skateboarding on the rainbow, but the dog ate the leprechaun, skateboard broke, and the rainbow wouldn't have supported it anyway. I'm really glad that I didn't- I like the simplicity of how it turned out. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't make the clouds too big/heavy or the rainbow will droop. Use melted chocolate to help secure them. If I were doing it again I wouldn't have carved the rim of the cake- the fondant made it droop. It ended up looking good, but I was afraid it would tear/break. Next time if carve the pot then add a roll of fondant for the rim.
