Ombre Cake From Maggie Austin Fondant Fr

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake 10" Margarita cake filled with Lime curd, lime mousse with fresh sliced strawberries/ Iced in Italian meringue buttercream. Gumpaste Cabbage Roses, Fondant ruffles. What are you most proud of? Learning to make the cabbage rose. I had a serious accident 3 months ago and lost the tip of my index finger. I was not sure I would be able to do cakes after that. So lucky and so happy that I can still do what I love to do. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make your roses ahead. Decide on a color pallet before starting your project, color your fondant the day before so nothing slows you down once you start the ruffles. Then just have fun with it.

Q&A with Shirleywilson

Maggie Austin asked:
You've made Spring on a cake! Just charming. Congratulations!
Shirleywilson answered:
Thank you Maggie. The cake went over well at lasts nights charity fundraiser, it sold for $150.00 at the live auction. Because I iced it in buttercream I wasn't able to do the upside down version for the frills but it worked out alright.
Apolline asked:
I love your cakes, each one is beautiful. They must taste wonderful. My mouth is watering after reading the ingredients you've used :-) Sorry to hear about your finger.
Shirleywilson answered:
Thank you Apoline. I am pleased you like my work. The loss of the finger slowed me down for awhile but now I rarely notice it is gone.
