Q&A with rbertolero

Wow! How many have you made so far?
rbertolero answered:
Hi, that was my first and only ... so far. I won't ever do it again unless I charge a lot more. It's a lot of work, although it will obviously be easier the next time.

Beautiful. What did you use to create your own impression mat? Also how did you make the round lock? Thanks for your help.
rbertolero answered:
Thanks Kathleen, you're gonna laugh, but I bought a product on line called Composimold. It's a thick rubbery substance you heat in the microwave to melt. I cut the center out of a Tupperware lid, leaving the rim as a dam to trap the Composimold. I then poured it on my leather-bound Bible. It made a great impression, just not deep enough to really hold for the sides of the purse. I just ended up taking a plastic cobblestone (small) mat and pressed it in varying directions on top of the first impression. I think it turned out OK. For the lock, I used a shot glass. Haha I just made a thick piece if gumpaste and cut it with that, then used a fondant tool to make an impression in the center. Hope that helps.

This is really nice I have this purse and you did a excellent job duplicating it. How much would you charge for a purse like this?
rbertolero answered:
Hi momluvkas, sorry for the delay in answering ... not sure how I'm notified of comments/questions ... I just stumbled on your question. Thanks for your comments, very kind. I charged $150 for it. It was my first attempt (the customer knew this), and for a friend, so I was reluctant to charge more. Having said that, If I were to do it again, I wouldn't do it for less than $500. I'm what I consider a beginner, but I do think it turned out pretty good and it was a lot of work.
