Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Fondant ruffles, gumpaste brooches, silicone putty used to make original molds from the bride's antique brooch bouquet of family heirloom jewelry. Inspired by the ruffled cakes by Maggie Austin. Cake base covered in fondant, impressed with lace images to coordinate with the lace on the bride's gown. Sugar rose to match floral arrangements. What are you most proud of? Being able to reproduce the jewelry that had such special significance to the bride and her family. In addition to adding beautiful embellishment to the cake, it meant a lot to them. I loved that. What advice would you give someone starting this project? The ruffled cake design is lovely. Don't be afraid to find ways to make it your own. Maybe that means adding some color or painting details. Not every tier has to be the same. Ruffled tiers alternating with your own personal designs makes both more beautiful and special. Think outside the box.
