I used the skills for getting a smooth buttercream icing and crumb coat that was taught in the basic buttercream class. I grew up watching my mother make royal icing transfers to decorate her cakes, but she passed away before teaching me her cake decorating skills. From my memory of what my mother did as a cake decorator, I tried to imitate her by creating a royal icing transfer on wax paper of lightning Mcqueen and checkered flags. I first made the outline in black royal icing on the wax paper, then let it dry overnight. The next day I made other royal icing colors and filled in the outline. I let that dry overnight as well as let my crumb coated cake chill in the fridge. The next day I iced the cake and applied the royal icing toppers I made, then added a pretty red border.
