Double sided satin ribbon around the bottom of each tier. I crumb coated each tier and allowed them to cool in the fridge. When ready I did a final coat of buttercream, and used my scraper to make the sides smooth. I warmed my small off set spatula, and used it to pull in the buttercream at the top. I used the the same spatula with continuing to warm it, and cleaned up the top of each tier. I used cakepop sticks, which are very sturdy, to support the weight of each tier. I did not use a dowel rod through the center, because it was stored in separate boxes (I ran out of the big boxes, and wanted it to be covered on the way to its final location. It was put together at the final location. I had all my supplies with me in case any was needed. I put the cakes together, and added the ribbon. Then the flag toppers were added. The cake was off set, because that is how the bride wanted them. It gave it a unique look to a traditional cake.
