I completed the entire project in two days, about 18 hours of work in total (including baking, filling, covering in fondant, preparing cake board, taking photos etc.). One of the most labor-intense cake I've done so far. I didn't think I could pull it off! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take your time. Make sure the icing is the correct consistency. Work with the freshest eggs and the freshest royal icing available (reconstituted egg whites did NOT work for me). Allow PLENTY of drying time in between layers! Don't fuss and don't do ANY hasty movements that could knock the delicate strings off your cake (as I learned the hard way).
