Easter Basket Cake

Do you sell this cake? No, just for fun Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake I started with a square cake and then I carved it into the shape of a basket. It was crumb coated with chocolate ganache and then covered with MMF. Using the wax-paper transfer method and modeling chocolate, I built four woven patterns and then I adhered them to the sides of the cake. I tried to do a slight ombre effect on the pattern and I wrapped the top of the basket with an edible sheet to give the impression as if the inside was lined with fabric. The tag and figures where done with gum paste. With the exception of the handle, everything is edible. I had to insert a small wire in the handle to give it support and to form the arch shape. What are you most proud of? I'm very happy with the woven pattern on the sides of the cake. It ended put straight and sturdy looking. I also like that the colorful edible sheet looks like actual fabric. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Have a plan of your project in place before you start. If something doesn't go right as you work on the cake, don't be afraid to consider other options and even to ask others around you for their opinion! I had to do this with this project.
