Dora the Explorer cake

Project Description

Do you sell this cake? Yes (locally only) Name of website or online shop locally only Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake This cake was made for a dear 3 yr old through Icing Smiles. The cake is made of 8" (4 layers) and 10" (3 layers) with pink icing on the inside too! Fondant covered & hand brushed in pink. All the characters are non-edible, printed from a regular printer, glued to 1/4" core board and cut out with an x-acto knife. A skewer was inserted for cake placement & able to be remove so the child can play with the characters later. I used white floral wire for the Toucan bird. The butterflies, flowers, and stars were printed on edible paper & cut out with scissors. Carefully bend the butterflies in half and attach at the bend with corn syrup for the fluttering affect. The whole cake was sprinkled with edible glitter. What are you most proud of? Even though the orange butterfly on the front never made it to the party, they loved it! The 3 yr old decided to pick off the wing and eat it after I told the mom that it was edible. haha :) What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you're going to use the foam board for the character - give yourself plenty of time to cut them out!!
